PAT Air Flow Meter: Essential for Optimal Engine Function
Ensuring the smooth operation of your vehicle's engine, the PAT Air Flow Meter is a vital component of your engine management system. Positioned between the air filter and throttle body, this Mass Air Flow Sensor measures incoming air and often incorporates the Intake Air Temperature Sensor (ATS). The data collected by this sensor assists your engine's ECU in achieving the correct fuel mix, ignition timing, and in some cases, transmission shifting.
Key Features:
- Includes a tiny, electrically heated wire that measures airflow volume
- Helps your ECU to accurately inject the right amount of fuel
- Can detect and diagnose issues such as rough idle, sluggish performance, black exhaust smoke, and poor fuel economy
- Compatible with a wide range of vehicles across Australia and New Zealand
- Built to car manufacturer's standards for perfect fit and function
- Comes with a 12-month warranty for peace of mind
How It Works:
The Mass Air Flow Sensor contains a small, electrically heated wire. Another sensor nearby monitors the wire's temperature. At idle, little air flows over the wire, keeping electrical needs low to maintain the wire's heat. However, when the throttle is opened, the surge of air cools the wire. To bring the temperature back up, more electricity is sent through. The greater the airflow, the more power is needed. This electric current directly represents airflow volume, providing your ECU with the information it needs to precisely inject the right amount of fuel.
Diagnosing Issues:
A faulty Mass Air Flow Sensor can cause a range of problems. The most common issue is contamination of the hot wire by dust, dirt, or oil, which can make accurate airflow readings impossible. To diagnose issues, check the sensor's signal with the appropriate scan tool or oscilloscope and compare it to the specifications for your vehicle. Warning codes on your dashboard can also indicate a problem. Always remember to check for intake leaks or faulty wiring, as these can also affect the Mass Air Flow Sensor.
PAT Emission: The Reliable Choice
With over 340 top-quality Air Flow Meters and sensors, PAT Emission covers millions of vehicles across Australia and New Zealand. Choosing PAT means choosing parts built to your car manufacturer's standards, ensuring the perfect fit and function for your vehicle.
Note: For correct fitment, ensure the vehicle is listed in the compatibility list and read any notes associated with the product. If there are no vehicle details listed, please send a message.

Packaging note: PAT products may be supplied in PAT Premium packaging instead of the manufacturer's original box.
PAT sources EFI and engine-management parts from established OE-type manufacturers and repackages some of them in Australia. The manufacturer inside can change between batches as supply changes — for example, a part once made by Hitachi may now come from Bosch. Every unit is an OE-type part from a recognised manufacturer.
Packaging: Manufacturers periodically update their packaging and labelling. You may receive the current or a previous design — the product, formulation and part number are unchanged.
Fitment (vehicle-specific products): Vehicle fitment is based on manufacturer and supplier catalogue data and is kept as accurate as possible, but vehicle catalogues are not perfect. Some models had more than one part fitted depending on build date, engine, or component size/variant, and parts on older vehicles may have been replaced with non-original or different-style components.
Before you buy, compare the product images with the part currently fitted to your vehicle — check shape, size, connectors and mounting points. If the part on your vehicle looks different, please contact us before purchasing. It is the buyer's responsibility to confirm the part suits their vehicle before purchasing.
Not sure? Message us with your vehicle's registration number and state (preferred), or full VIN/build details, and we'll do our best to confirm fitment before you buy.
Parts returned because they do not suit the vehicle, where the listing matches the manufacturer's catalogue, are treated as a change of mind and must be unused, uninstalled and in original packaging. Nothing in this notice affects your rights under the Australian Consumer Law.
