Product Description

PAT Air Flow Meter: Essential for Optimal Engine Function

Ensuring the smooth operation of your vehicle's engine, the PAT Air Flow Meter is a vital component of your engine management system. Positioned between the air filter and throttle body, this Mass Air Flow Sensor measures incoming air and often incorporates the Intake Air Temperature Sensor (ATS). The data collected by this sensor assists your engine's ECU in achieving the correct fuel mix, ignition timing, and in some cases, transmission shifting.

  • Constructed with a small, electrically heated wire inside, the Mass Air Flow Sensor monitors the wire's temperature to determine airflow volume.
  • At idle, minimal air flows over the wire, requiring low electrical input to maintain the wire's heat (approximately 200 degrees Celsius).
  • When the throttle is opened, the surge of air cools the wire, necessitating more electricity to restore the temperature. The electric current required directly represents the airflow volume, providing your ECU with the information it needs to accurately inject the appropriate amount of fuel.
  • A faulty Mass Air Flow Sensor can lead to a range of issues, including rough idle, sluggish performance, black exhaust smoke, poor fuel economy, and even a warning light on your dashboard. The primary cause of these problems is contamination of the hot wire by dust, dirt, or oil gunk, which prevents accurate airflow readings.
  • While newer Mass Air Flow Sensors are designed to minimise this issue, they are not invincible. Oily aftermarket air filters are a common source of contamination.
  • To diagnose a problem with the sensor, compare its signal with the correct specifications for your vehicle using the appropriate scan tool or oscilloscope. Warning codes on your dashboard (such as P0068, P0100, P0101, P0102, P0103, P0104) can also indicate a problem. Remember to check for intake leaks or faulty wiring, which can also affect the Mass Air Flow Sensor.
  • PAT Emission offers over 340 high-quality Air Flow Meters and sensors, suitable for a wide range of vehicles across Australia and New Zealand. Choosing PAT means choosing parts that are built to your car manufacturer's standards, ensuring the perfect fit and function.

* For correct fitment, ensure the vehicle is listed in the compatibility list and read any notes associated with the product. If there are no vehicle details listed, please send a message.

About this brand

PAT

Note: This item may not come in the manufacturers original packaging

Unfortunately, over the past few years, the Australian aftermarket has seen a significant increase in lower quality EFI and Engine Management products. It is easy for consumers and even technicians to be confused as to the quality of the products in the market. Because the issues experienced by workshops installing low quality parts can include safety, expensive repairs and damage to your reputation an increased request for quality products has become evident in the aftermarket.

Sometimes products shipped from leading manufacturers overseas require repackaging in Australia. In these cases we have begun to use a new range of premium packaging to enable easy identification of the premium brand or genuine product. Where required products from leading manufacturers including Pierburg, Bosch, Delphi, VDO, Denso, Valeo, Hitachi, VDO, TI Automotive, Walbro, Bougicord, FAE, Standard Motor Products, TE Automotive, Hella, Bremi and others may be supplied in the new PAT Premium Range packaging, giving you peace of mind that a quality brand product is enclosed.

Some PAT branded products may also be in their original packaging. Due to the changing nature of the supply chains around the world, our supplier sometimes will change suppliers. For example a product that used to be supplied as a Hitachi product might now be a Bosch brand. In all cases they will be well known OE type products as per the above paragraph.
