PAT Air Mass Meter: The Essential Component for Your Engine Management System
Ensuring the smooth operation of your vehicle's engine management system, the PAT Air Mass Meter is a vital component. Positioned between the air filter and throttle body, this Mass Air Flow Sensor measures incoming air and often incorporates the Intake Air Temperature Sensor (ATS). The data collected by this sensor assists your engine's ECU in achieving the correct fuel mix, ignition timing, and sometimes even transmission shifting.
Key Features:
- Contains a tiny, electrically heated wire that measures airflow volume
- Helps your ECU to precisely inject the right amount of fuel
- Can detect and diagnose problems such as rough idle, sluggish performance, black exhaust smoke, and bad fuel economy
- Includes a 12-month warranty for peace of mind
How the PAT Air Mass Meter Works:
The Mass Air Flow Sensor houses a small, electrically heated wire. Another sensor nearby monitors the wire's temperature. At idle, little air flows over the wire, keeping electrical needs low to maintain the wire's heat (around 200 degrees Celsius). However, when the throttle is opened, the surge of air cools the wire. To bring the temperature back up, more electricity is sent through – the greater the airflow, the more power is needed. This electric current directly represents airflow volume, providing your ECU with the information it needs to inject the correct amount of fuel.
Diagnosing Potential Issues:
A faulty Mass Air Flow Sensor can cause a range of problems: rough idle, sluggish performance, black exhaust smoke, bad fuel economy – you might even get a warning light on your dash. The main issue is contamination of the hot wire. Dust, dirt, or oil gunk builds up, making accurate airflow readings impossible. While newer Mass Air Flow Sensors are designed to reduce this issue, they're not infallible. Oily aftermarket air filters are a common contamination source.
The PAT Emission Solution:
PAT Emission offers over 340 top-quality Air Flow Meters and sensors, covering millions of vehicles across Australia and New Zealand. When you choose PAT, you get parts built to your car manufacturer's standards for the perfect fit and function.
Note: For correct fitment ensure the vehicle is listed in the compatibility list AND read any notes associated with the product. If there is no vehicle details listed please send a message.

Packaging note: PAT products may be supplied in PAT Premium packaging instead of the manufacturer's original box.
PAT sources EFI and engine-management parts from established OE-type manufacturers and repackages some of them in Australia. The manufacturer inside can change between batches as supply changes — for example, a part once made by Hitachi may now come from Bosch. Every unit is an OE-type part from a recognised manufacturer.
Packaging: Manufacturers periodically update their packaging and labelling. You may receive the current or a previous design — the product, formulation and part number are unchanged.
Fitment (vehicle-specific products): Vehicle fitment is based on manufacturer and supplier catalogue data and is kept as accurate as possible, but vehicle catalogues are not perfect. Some models had more than one part fitted depending on build date, engine, or component size/variant, and parts on older vehicles may have been replaced with non-original or different-style components.
Before you buy, compare the product images with the part currently fitted to your vehicle — check shape, size, connectors and mounting points. If the part on your vehicle looks different, please contact us before purchasing. It is the buyer's responsibility to confirm the part suits their vehicle before purchasing.
Not sure? Message us with your vehicle's registration number and state (preferred), or full VIN/build details, and we'll do our best to confirm fitment before you buy.
Parts returned because they do not suit the vehicle, where the listing matches the manufacturer's catalogue, are treated as a change of mind and must be unused, uninstalled and in original packaging. Nothing in this notice affects your rights under the Australian Consumer Law.
