PAT Air Mass Meter Insert - AFM-316

Essential for the optimal functioning of your engine management system, the PAT Air Mass Meter Insert is a critical component that sits between your air filter and throttle body. This Mass Air Flow Sensor measures incoming air and often includes the Intake Air Temperature Sensor (ATS) as well. The data it collects is vital for your engine's ECU to accurately determine the fuel mix, ignition timing, and sometimes even transmission shifting.

  • Features a tiny, electrically heated wire inside the Mass Air Flow Sensor.
  • Another sensor nearby monitors the wire's temperature.
  • At idle, minimal air flows over the wire, keeping electrical needs low to maintain the wire's heat (around 200 degrees Celsius).
  • When the throttle is open, the surge of air cools the wire. To bring the temperature back up, more electricity is sent through.
  • The electric current directly represents airflow volume, providing your ECU with the information it needs to precisely inject the right amount of fuel.

A faulty Mass Air Flow Sensor can cause a range of issues: rough idle, sluggish performance, black exhaust smoke, poor fuel economy, and even a warning light on your dash. The most common issue is contamination of the hot wire by dust, dirt, or oil gunk, which can make accurate airflow readings impossible. While newer Mass Air Flow Sensors are designed to reduce this issue, they're not infallible. Oily aftermarket air filters are a common contamination source.

  • Diagnose the problem by checking the sensor's signal with the right scan tool or oscilloscope and compare it to specs for your vehicle.
  • Warning codes on your dash can also indicate a problem (look out for codes starting with P0068, P0100, P0101, P0102, P0103, P0104).
  • Don't forget the basics! Intake leaks or faulty wiring can also affect the Mass Air Flow Sensor.

Packaging note: PAT products may be supplied in PAT Premium packaging instead of the manufacturer's original box.

PAT sources EFI and engine-management parts from established OE-type manufacturers and repackages some of them in Australia. The manufacturer inside can change between batches as supply changes — for example, a part once made by Hitachi may now come from Bosch. Every unit is an OE-type part from a recognised manufacturer.

Packaging: Manufacturers periodically update their packaging and labelling. You may receive the current or a previous design — the product, formulation and part number are unchanged.

Fitment (vehicle-specific products): Vehicle fitment is based on manufacturer and supplier catalogue data and is kept as accurate as possible, but vehicle catalogues are not perfect. Some models had more than one part fitted depending on build date, engine, or component size/variant, and parts on older vehicles may have been replaced with non-original or different-style components.

Before you buy, compare the product images with the part currently fitted to your vehicle — check shape, size, connectors and mounting points. If the part on your vehicle looks different, please contact us before purchasing. It is the buyer's responsibility to confirm the part suits their vehicle before purchasing.

Not sure? Message us with your vehicle's registration number and state (preferred), or full VIN/build details, and we'll do our best to confirm fitment before you buy.

Parts returned because they do not suit the vehicle, where the listing matches the manufacturer's catalogue, are treated as a change of mind and must be unused, uninstalled and in original packaging. Nothing in this notice affects your rights under the Australian Consumer Law.
